It is popular as an ornamental stone and for jewellery, featuring a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Metaphysically, it is used for passion, emotional healing, and growth.

• Composition: A metamorphic rock containing green zoisite, opaque ruby inclusions, and black hornblende.
• Colour: Distinctive green (zoisite) and red (ruby), often with black spotting (hornblende).

• Source: Exclusively found in the Longido mining district in Northeast Tanzania.
