Bumblebee Jasper (often called Bumblebee Stone) is a vibrant, striking mineral from Indonesia renowned for its bold yellow, orange, and black bands, which mimic the stripes of a bee. Despite its name, it contains no quartz and is actually a fibrous calcite containing volcanic matter, sulphur, and arsenic.
Key Characteristics & Composition
- Location: Only found on the island of Java, Indonesia, making it quite rare.
- Minerals: Colors are created by sulfur (yellow/orange), realgar/arsenic (orange), and pyrite/hematite (black/gray).
- Hardness: A relatively soft stone, rating between 4 and 5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Safety Precautions
Because it contains arsenic and sulphur, it requires mindful handling.
- Polished Stones: Fully polished and tumbled stones are generally safe to hold and wear as jewellery.
- Raw Specimens: Never use raw, unpolished Bumblebee Jasper to make crystal elixirs or face toners.
- Hygiene: Always wash your hands after handling the stone, and avoid touching your mouth or eyes while holding it.
Metaphysical Uses
Associated with the sacral and solar plexus chakras, it is often used to promote:
- Creativity and empowerment
- Endurance, concentration, and mental clarity
- Confidence and vitality
